May 13, 2026 – AI Daily Recap
Today’s AI landscape delivered a mix of bold product launches, a cybersecurity milestone, massive funding, and enterprise infrastructure moves. Google stole the show with its Android Show 2026, unveiling a new laptop category and an AI-powered operating system vision, while its threat intelligence team flagged a historic first in cyberattack methodology. Here’s everything that matters.
Google Unveils Googlebook and Gemini Intelligence at Android Show 2026

Google used its pre-I/O Android Show 2026 to introduce two major initiatives. First, Googlebook is a new category of premium laptops that merges the best of Android and ChromeOS with Gemini AI baked in at every level. The devices feature a “Magic Pointer” that uses Gemini to deliver contextual suggestions at the cursor, plus the ability to create custom widgets using natural language. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are all building Googlebooks, with devices arriving this fall. Second, Gemini Intelligence transforms Android from a traditional OS into a proactive AI assistant layer spanning phones, watches, cars, laptops, and XR devices. The features roll out to Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones starting this summer.
Google Thwarts First Confirmed AI-Generated Zero-Day Cyberattack

In a development that cybersecurity experts have long feared, Google’s Threat Intelligence Group reported the first confirmed case of a threat actor using an AI large language model to discover and weaponize a zero-day vulnerability. The exploit targeted a flaw in a Python script used to bypass two-factor authentication on a widely used open-source web admin tool. Google says the attackers planned a mass exploitation event, but proactive discovery by GTIG allowed them to work with the vendor to patch the vulnerability and disrupt the attack before it could scale. The report, which Google described as the “tip of the iceberg,” signals a new era where AI accelerates both sides of the cybersecurity arms race.
Alphabet’s Isomorphic Labs Raises $2.1 Billion for AI Drug Discovery
Isomorphic Labs, the AI-first drug design company led by DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, closed a $2.1 billion Series B round led by Thrive Capital. The round, one of the largest ever for AI drug discovery, includes participation from Alphabet, GV, MGX, Temasek, CapitalG, and the UK Sovereign AI Fund. The capital will fuel continued development of Isomorphic’s AI Drug Design Engine (IsoDDE) and accelerate its therapeutic pipeline toward clinical trials. The company maintains strategic partnerships with Novartis, Lilly, and Johnson & Johnson, and has now raised approximately $2.6 billion in total funding.
Anthropic Goes All-In on Legal AI with 20+ Connectors and 12 Practice-Area Plugins
Anthropic made its biggest enterprise play yet by releasing more than 20 MCP connectors and 12 new practice-area plugins for Claude Cowork, targeting the legal profession specifically. The plugins cover commercial, corporate, employment, privacy, product, regulatory, AI governance, IP, and litigation law, with dedicated tools for law students and legal clinics as well. On the integration side, connectors now link Claude to Ironclad, DocuSign, iManage, NetDocuments, Relativity, Everlaw, and Thomson Reuters’ CoCounsel Legal. Claude also now works within Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, carrying context across all four applications. Legal professionals have reportedly become the most engaged Cowork users of any knowledge-work function.
IBM Launches Red Hat AI Inference as a Managed Cloud Service

IBM announced two new managed services designed to help enterprises move AI from pilot to production. Red Hat AI Inference on IBM Cloud, generally available May 22, provides a fully managed inference platform powered by vLLM with built-in governance controls, OpenAI-compatible APIs, and support for models including Granite 4.0, Mistral-Small-3.2, Llama 3.3 70B, GPT-OSS-120B, and Nemotron-3-Nano. Alongside it, Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Service on IBM Cloud offers a managed path for enterprises to migrate and run virtual machines on Kubernetes-based infrastructure. IBM says the services target the growing gap between AI experimentation and production deployment.
Robinhood Files for Second Venture Fund Targeting Early-Stage AI Startups
Robinhood has filed a confidential registration for RVII, a second publicly traded venture fund that expands beyond its first fund’s late-stage focus to include early-stage startups. The move follows RVI’s debut in March, which has more than doubled in share price to $43.69, driven by its AI-heavy portfolio including stakes in OpenAI, ElevenLabs, and Databricks. CEO Vlad Tenev described the vehicle as a publicly traded venture capital firm with daily liquidity and no carry fees, removing accreditation requirements that have historically excluded retail investors from private-market returns. The longer-term ambition is for retail investors to participate in seed and Series A rounds alongside traditional venture firms.
The Big Picture
Today’s news paints a picture of an AI industry simultaneously expanding its ambitions and confronting new realities. Google is reimagining what a laptop and an operating system should be in the age of AI, while simultaneously confirming that adversaries are already using AI to discover novel attack vectors. Isomorphic Labs’ $2.1 billion raise underscores the massive capital flows into AI-driven drug discovery. Anthropic’s aggressive legal tech push and IBM’s managed inference platform show that enterprise AI adoption is accelerating across professions and infrastructure stacks. And Robinhood’s move to democratize early-stage AI investing signals that the industry’s financial ecosystem is maturing fast. The common thread: AI is no longer experimental — it’s becoming the operating layer for everything from laptops to law firms to drug labs.
